Get to the start

Passing the source of the Eyrieux, this 2nd stage will take you to Saint-Agrève, a meeting point for mountain people and steep-slope dwellers. The route then reaches the gateway to the volcanic plateau of Mézenc. Everywhere is a land of silence, enlivened only by herds in summer, dotted here and there with massive, isolated dwellings. Fine, aromatic lawns alternate with coniferous forests. Wide tracks take you to Les Estables at the foot of Mont Mézenc.

Special difficulties

Après Chaudeyrolles, longue ascension vers le Mézenc avec une côte continue et des portions à 10%. Non sans un bel effort, on poursuit dans la pente pour rejoindre 1,5km plus haut le col de la Croix de Peccata. De là sur 400m légère ascension sur des dalles de lauze puis bifurquation à droite à travers les bois sur un chemin plus étroit. Poursuivre à flancs pour rejoindre le GR 7 avant d'atteindre le col de la Croix de Boutières et rejoindre Les Estables.
